Buenos Aires: Messi will not miss World Cup qualifiers for Argentina. Messi was shown a red card in the run-up to the 2019 Copa Amrica, raising concerns that he could miss matches for the country.
However, CONMEBOL accepted the Argentina Football Federation's claim that the ban following the red card in the Copa America match had expired. Argentina's World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Bolivia next month. Messi was allowed to play in friendly matches.
Messi received a red card in the 37th minute against Chile in a battle to find third place in the Copa America. Chilean Gary Medellin also had to leave the field. However, goals from Dybala and Aguero helped Argentina to victory.
After being sent off, Messi opened the scoring. Messi has criticized the Copa Amrica for being "all about corruption".
Messi had some choice words after the red card as he implied that officials were rigging the tournament in Brazil's favour.
'There is no doubt, the whole thing is set up for Brazil,' he said. 'I hope the VAR and referees don't play any part in the final and that Peru can compete but it looks tough to me.
'I did not want to be part of this corruption, we shouldn't have to be part of this disrespect we suffered during the Copa America.
'We could have gone further but we weren't allowed into the final. Corruption, referees and all the rest stopped people from enjoying the football.
