Roma have officially announced the signing of 23 year-old Spanish striker Borja Mayoral from Real Madrid.
The Giallorossi revealed that the attacker joins the club on an initial two-year loan deal, for a fee of €2 million.
Borja Mayoral travels to Rome. Once the medical examination has been passed, the transfer has been made official. Yesterday he already said goodbye to his teammates at Real Madrid City.
“I am pleased to finally join – it has been a hectic few days, but the main thing is everything has worked out for the best,” Mayoral said to Roma’s official website.
“It’s an honour for me to represent an historic club like Roma. I am grateful to the club for the faith they have shown; I will give everything for this club and I hope to make our fans proud”.
Roma CEO Guido Fienga also commented on the acquisition of the Spaniard and referenced his vast experience despite his young age.
“With this signing we are adding a talented player to the group, and one who has learned his trade at a renowned club like Real Madrid,” said Fienga.
“Despite his young age he has already picked up some valuable experience. He had the choice to stay at Real Madrid or come here – he chose Roma, and we are delighted about that”.
Mayoral will get more minutes for Roma than the role he was expected to have at Madrid, although it will not be easy for him to make the starting lineup consistently ahead of Edin Dzeko, who appears to be the established striker for the Italian side.
Therefore, Karim Benzema, Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz will be Real Madrid’s strikers this 2020-2021 season.
