Chelsea’s transformation from possessing one of the worst defences in the Premier League to clean sheet kings has been pretty remarkable.
The Blues, aided by the additions of Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy, have become incredibly difficult to break down and Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat of Rennes was their sixth clean sheet in their last seven outings.
Chelsea's defense has come a long way, with a 10 - year - old record. Chelsea won the clean sheet against Rennes in the Champions League, their fifth consecutive clean sheet. For the first time since 2010, Chelsea have won five consecutive clean sheets. Chelsea last won five consecutive clean sheets in 2010 under Carlo Ancelotti.
The Chelsea defense, which conceded a number of goals under Frank Lombard last season, has been in fine form with the arrival of Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and goalkeeper Mendy.
Also, Chelsea have not conceded a goal in any of the three matches they have played in the Champions League so far. Chelsea have won clean sheets against Sevilla, Manchester United, Krasnodar, Burnley and Renz. Chelsea have not conceded a goal in six of their last seven matches.
Lampard has huge faith in his coaching staff and he is seemingly reaping the rewards for his decision to employ Barry.
Make no mistake, it is still early days, but with Chelsea’s star-studded attack and their rejuvenated back line seemingly clicking into gear, it could be a very good campaign for Lampard’s men.
